Types of berths
According to the construction elements used and the construction method, the following are distinguished:

The method of constructing a sea pier is selected based on its location, bottom relief, climatic conditions, and soil type.
Among the advantages: accessibility of the construction site for ground-based special equipment, stable tolerance to natural disasters (floods, erosion of banks, ice drifts, etc.).
Disadvantages: high labor intensity and cost; need to obtain permission for construction work in a water protection zone.
These are prefabricated structures made of modular blocks with a locking connection.
The advantages of building berths using this method are mobility and relative cheapness. Pontoons are erected faster, and if necessary, they can also be easily dismantled to move to another location.
Disadvantages: instability to natural disasters (sharp floods, fast currents, strong winds, etc.); short service life compared to pile structures; low load-bearing capacity.
Repair and maintenance of berths
Any berthing structures, even if they are designed and built with maximum precision, require periodic monitoring and maintenance. This is necessary to ensure their safety in further operation. This includes inspection of structures, underwater technical, repair work, as well as shore reinforcement.
Repairs may be required due to improper use, natural wear and tear, or climatic conditions. A more serious reason for repairing a berth may be the destruction of a gabion structure, for example, due to improper construction technology or poor-quality materials.
